Hospital transfusion management

Safe and appropriate use of blood products is very important in a blood transfusion. According to the addition of the paragraph regarding the establishment and operation of the hospital transfusion committee and the blood transfusion management office in hospitals to the Korean blood management act, these mandatories will be implemented from December 2020, and hospitals that perform blood transfusions need to be prepared. The goal of the session is to help hospitals to prepare countermeasures.

Policy trends in laboratory medicine

In this session, current policy issues related to laboratory medicines, will be introduced and discussed. Those issues are approval of national reference laboratory for infectious diseases, the third revision of relative value score, and exemption of informed consent in collecting residual samples for research.

Clinical laboratory continues to improve in productivity with the development of technology. One of the most important factor in laboratory productivity is IT system. Laboratory can handle large amounts of data and information quickly and easily with advanced it system. We're not IT professionals, so the IT still sounds like a distant talk, and it feels like a difficult area to accomplish. With this session, we would like to share experiences and explore the new technology.

Cooperation of ministry of food and drug safety and Korean society for laboratory medicine for overcoming COVID-19

COVID-19 has caused many cases and deaths in globally. It showed the great value of diagnostic tests for quarantine. We will discuss the emergency use authorization (EUA) and usual approval process of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and approval cases of other countries for exporting Korean IVD manufacturer. Also, explain the clinical evaluation procedure and the institute of clinical performance test in accordance with act and regulations for IVD.

Clinically unmet needs in laboratory hematology

Diagnostics of hematologic malignancies have recently been experiencing extensive modification due to the incorporation of advanced diagnostic tools into existing workflows. In this session, we will define the role of hematopathologists in the new diagnostic era by discussing the emerging diagnostic issues in the field of hematologic malignancies.

Laboratory investigation of hormone and vitamins

In this session, we will discuss the clinical application of hormone tests used to diagnose and manage endocrine diseases and the recent update of the test methods. We will also look at diagnostic tests that can be used for differential diagnosis of vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency.

PHEIC (Public Health Emergency of International Concern) & EUA (Emergency Use Authorization)

WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on January 30, 2020.
PHEIC is a formal declaration by the WHO of "an extraordinary event which is determined to constitute a public health risk to other States through the international spread of disease and to potentially require a coordinated international response".
In this session PHEIC and EUA (Emergency Use Authorization) in response to the Korea’s coronavirus outbreak will be discussed.
